H<sup>-</sup> beam formation simulation in negative ion source for CERN's Linac4 accelerator

Abstract The caesiated surface negative ion (H - ) source is the first element of CERN's LINAC4 a linear injector designed to accelerate hydrogen ions 160 MeV. IS03 operated at 35 mA beam intensity and reliably feeds accelerator chain, H are generated via plasma volume molybdenum (Cs-Mo) electrode mechanisms. Studying extraction region this essential for optimizing production. 3D Particle-in-cell (PIC) Monte Carlo (MC) code ONIX (Orsay Negative Ion eXtraction [1]), written study formation processes in neutral-beam injectors fusion, has been adapted single aperture sources. was modified match conditions regions Linac4 [2]. A set parameters chosen characterize specific production modes. Simulated results presented benchmarked with experimental obtained test stand [3].
